Nightingale House

Nightingale House was developed in partnership with the local authority to provide, safe temporary accommodation for homeless families. People who need support to resolve issues, and enable them to manage their own accommodation, within the community they move on to. The project has given special consideration to the needs of children and to ensure that safety and security is a key feature of the design solution.

The house has 26 bedrooms, with a potential of 86 bed spaces, over 3 floors, all with ensuite W.C. and shower facilities. Most have a private mini kitchen. One bedroom is specially adapted to wheelchair user standard and there are Specialist Halal cooking facilities.

Additionally, there is a communal room, laundry facilities, children’s play area and external garden area. WI-FI access to the internet is provided throughout the building to promote a flexible environment, to aid the learning and educational needs of adults, young people and children.

There is a high specification security and door entry system (including internal and external CCTV), office space for hostel management and support staff, highly trained support workers – working with families, including access to schooling, parenting skills etc…

The Intention is for families to be accommodated for a period of up to 6 months. Under terms and conditions of their stay, the residents are required to work closely with their support worker. As a family hostel, full assessments will be carried out to ensure the suitability of residents, and that they do not pose a risk to children.

Finally, the project has 24 hour staffing by support workers, who are involved with the families - not merely security officers.
