Talk of the Abbey Talk of the Abbey will be Talk of the Town

Plans for a £7.7million investment in two new high profile town centre housing developments have been announced for Windsor Road, Neath.

Neath Port Talbot Council, in partnership with Swansea Housing Association, were successful in a joint bid for £4.4 million Social Housing Grant from the Wales Assembly Government and for a further £3.3million in private funding.

A flagship mixed use development will be built on the site of the old Windsor Cinema/Talk of the Abbey Nightclub and an imposing gateway to Windsor Road will be created with the redevelopment of the Electron Service Station.

The architect designed scheme will include a glass atrium incorporating and preserving the distinctive Harlequin stained glass windows which are a local feature.

Swansea Housing Association chief executive Tim Blanch said: “We are delighted that the developments at the former Electron Service Station and Talk of the Abbey are to go ahead. We look forward to a continuing partnership with the council both on these projects and in the continuing process of regeneration in the Neath area.

“An increasing number of people are finding that town centre living is the perfect solution for them. Easier access to work, shops, transport and leisure are all key factors and we believe that mixed use developments, with town centre housing above quality commercial leisure or retail outlets, create a vibrant and attractive environment where people want to live.”
